This short audio presentation by Dr Denis McBrinn and narrated by Sara Dylan, is designed to bring a clear and understanding of what being true to yourself means, and to lead you gently into reflection on how your true self can bring clarity to your daily living and the realisation that: To be true to others, you must start by being true to yourself.

Once you are true to yourself, you’re also true to other people.

"May the True, Higher Self Within - Always Guide You" Krishna

Our true self is the soul of being. It is the part of us not defined by: ego, status, job, role or function.

It is our evolving higher self that seeks to rise above our basic instincts.

It represents the blue print for the realisation of what we can become. Our true self is the "silence" within that calls us to live our best possible lives.

As young children, we instinctively hear this inner call with great clarity. We live joyfully in the present moment and laugh and smile, much more than adults.

But as we grow up, worldly matters arise and the ego instinctively develops as part of survival.

We then learn to use psychological defences to protect ourselves from the harsh, competitive world.

Tips on being Assertive by Dr Denis McBrinn, narrated by Sara Dylan. This audiobook will bring to you a clear and comprehensive list of useful tips to help you become more assertive

The communication skill of being assertive, is about striking the right balance between our needs and the needs of others.

If we are always centred on satisfying our own needs, at the expense of others, we will be perceived as being selfish and aggressive.

On the other hand, if we are always putting the needs of others first and neglecting our own essential needs, we risk being taken for granted and our self-esteem will suffer.

Assertiveness is about finding the right response to situations, that is neither aggressive nor passive. It is an important communication tool, that can be learned and developed, with practice.

Dealing with Angry People front cover

Audiobook: Dealing with Angry People

Regular price £9.99 Listen immediately

This audiobook will equip you with proven techniques to successfully communicate with angry people and protect yourself from violence

Have you ever been angry? I’m sure you have. How did it feel? What caused it? Did you lash out physically at furniture or people or just fume quietly?

Have you ever experienced an angry customer, or patient, or family member and been at a loss as to how to calm things down? Upon reflection have you maybe sometimes escalated the anger in the other person by arguing or speaking over or interrupting their angry rant?

Have you ever seen someone reach a point where they do kick furniture about or even raise a hand to strike you?

This audiobook is designed to give you an understanding of what anger is and when encountered in someone else what to do and what not to do to calm things down and reach a more rational way forward.

Psychologists recognise three types of anger: 1. There is hasty and sudden anger often connected to the impulse for self-preservation. It is shared by human and other animals, and it occurs when the animal, the person, is tormented or trapped. 2. Then there is the more common settled and deliberate anger possibly a reaction to perceived deliberate harm or unfair treatment by others. 3. And finally, dispositional anger often related more to character traits than to instincts or cognitions. Irritability, sullenness and churlishness are examples of this

In this audiobook we will be focusing mostly on type 2 where the anger is settled and deliberate, possibly a reaction to perceived deliberate harm or unfair treatment. Of course you may encounter all three types.

Some examples of the type 2 kind of anger might include a customer, who is complaining about the standard of the product they have purchased, or the householder who is angry at the engineer who is trying to get their electricity supply back on, or their heating repaired on a cold winter’s day.

Whether they are right or wrong, their perception is that you or your organisation is to blame and they will vent their anger and hopefully not their violence, on you.

You might work in a shop, or a bank, or you might be a social worker visiting your clients at their homes? You might be a nurse or Doctor dealing with unruly patients in Emergency on a Saturday night, or a police officer for whom the angry person is a frequent occurrence. Whatever your role in life you are going to encounter an angry person at some point. Be prepared.

Suzanne says:

”To all my female friends over 40 years of "age''. Most of us are going through the next stage of our lives. We are at that age where we see the wrinkles, grey hair, and extra pounds.

Menopause has already shown up or just waiting around the corner. We see the pretty 25-year olds and sigh. But, we were 25 once, just like they will one day be our age. What they bring to the table with their youth and zest for life, we bring our wisdom, scars, experience and good hearts.

For all we've been through earning each grey hair; raising kids, paying bills, surviving illnesses and whatever else life has thrown at us, we are survivors... we are warriors... we are strong beautiful women. Like a classic car or fine wine.

While our exterior may not be what it once was, it is traded for our spirit, our courage and our strength to enter this new chapter of our lives with grace, pride and wisdom for all we've been through and accomplished.

Never feel bad about getting older. It is a privilege denied to many.”

In this new audiobook Suzanne will bring some wise words for all women in their 40s and approaching 50. She will be bringing to you, an understanding of what the menopause is; why it happens, how its symptoms can affect you, and how you can use tried and tested tips on how to deal with menopausal symptoms to make your daily life more manageable.

While she will be focusing mainly on key lifestyle changes that you can make and natural remedies that you can use, she will also mention when medication is in order to manage your symptoms.

Remember, ultimately you must always follow your doctor’s instructions: DO SEE YOUR DOCTOR IF you've had trouble with menopausal symptoms which are affecting your daily life in a way that makes it hard for you to cope.

Suzanne is a Nutritional Consultant and a Certified Health & Lifestyle coach.

Contains instruction on key breathing techniques.

Audiobook: INSOMNIA: Meditation for Deep Restful Sleep

Regular price £3.99 Listen immediately
/

This audio presentation will take you gently into a deep restful sleep under the guidance of Sara Dylan. Sara’s soft, kind, reassuring voice will lead you step by step into the safe, comfortable mind-set that will be conducive to achieving deep restful sleep. The intention of this meditation for deep sleep is that you will sleep soundly and deeply and wake up feeling refreshed and re-energised.

Everyone has a rough night or two, and about 30% of adults have occasional or short-term insomnia. Chronic insomnia, though, lasts for more than three weeks. About 10% of adults experience chronic insomnia, and most need treatment to get relief. You can help your doctor evaluate your problem by keeping a sleep diary, which tracks such things as: number and time of caffeinated beverages during the day, naps during the day, your bedtime the previous night, and number of awakenings during the night.

Meditation can help with sleep but there are other things to consider which will improve your chances of getting to sleep and staying asleep. The UK National Health Service recommends the following:

BE SURE TO • go to bed and wake up at the same time every day – only go to bed when you feel tired • relax at least 1 hour before bed – for example, take a bath or read a book • make sure your bedroom is dark and quiet – use thick curtains, blinds, an eye mask or ear plugs • make sure the room is not too hot or too cold • exercise regularly during the day • make sure your mattress, pillows and covers are comfortable

TRY NOT TO • drink alcohol, tea or coffee at least 6 hours before going to bed • eat a big meal late at night

DO SEE YOUR DOCTOR IF • you've had trouble sleeping for months • your insomnia is affecting your daily life in a way that makes it hard for you to cope

By Brenda Shankey From the best-selling audio album “Be Fabulous": Choose how you feel. Coping with hardships and stress and talking to yourself positively every day.

We all have been through difficult situations in our life, trauma, death, addiction, anger, stress, fear, hate, revenge, disappointments, and daily life’s struggles which challenge us every day. From now on I want you to look at these situations in a completely different way. Do not look at these as 'poor me why is my life so hard', 'why did I not get that job', 'why did my friend betray me, why is my partner so mean, why why why? For some things in life we will never find a reason, an explanation or an answer and what we do is let these situations ruin our life!

We allow ourselves to be the victim. We allow ourselves to be hurt, angry, sad, depressed, stressed! We can change that.

Remember we have the choice to choose how we feel about any situation good or bad. So from now on let’s see these situations as an opportunity to change how we think, feel and deal with life’s challenges.

Tragic events do not heed nor take consideration of our human feelings.

It is entirely normal to experience feelings of outrage, hurt and sorrow at such times. We may feel devastated, angry and want revenge.

But feelings of being wronged and hurt, while normal, can prolong our suffering.

Although it is not easy, dealing effectively with sorrow requires us to accept, forgive and gradually let go.

The practice of mindfulness helps to reduce stress and anxiety and contributes to our mental wellbeing. Mindfulness helps us to take notice of what is happening in the present moment.

By being more engaged with the present, we improve our focus on what really matters.

This improves understanding of our values, priorities and motivations.

We live in a constant stream of commentary running through our heads. But when we take notice and observe our mind, we are less likely to be controlled by negative thoughts.

SELF TALK by Dr Denis McBrinn: Narrated by Sara Dylan

Welcome to this short audio presentation which is designed to bring a clear definition of what self-talk is, how to achieve effective and positive self-talk, and to give you an opportunity to focus and reflect on the level of effective and positive self-talk currently in your life.

"There's someone in my head, but it's not me." Roger Waters

There is a voice inside everyone's head that is constantly talking.

It never stops: Always chattering away, every minute of our waking hours. This is known as our "Self-Talk" or "Internal Monologue".

No one else ever hears this internal voice but us. We are the sole listeners to our self-talk.

What our self-talk repeatedly says to us and how we respond to it, has a big influence on our life.

If our egos are too dominant, then our self-talk may be critical and demanding. What does your self-talk say to you? Is it generally positive or negative? Is it compassionate or critical? Is it constructive or conflicting? Is it a voice of hope and encouragement? A voice of anxiety and fear?
